Below are several massage techniques you may be familiar with separately. I may use one or more of these during a session based on what you tell me you need and what I may feel.
Swedish Massage is a relaxing style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of effleurage, long flowing strokes, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The therapeutic benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from fatigue or heaviness and body ache, decreased headaches and stress levels in the body, boosting the immune system, enhanced mental clarity, improved skin appearance and circulation.
Craniosacral Therapy CST) is a gentle hands-on technique that works with the soft tissue structures of the body and the flow of cerebrospinal fluid between the head and the base of the spine. These structures and fluids protect, support, and nourish the brain and spinal cord. It is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, tension in the head or jaw and mental and emotional stress that can build from acute or past traumas. It also has profound benefits for Migraine, MS symptoms and Autism. It does this by working under the radar of the brain when pain is present, optimizing the gentle movement of cranial bones and horizontal planes which helps regulate the flow of cerebral spinal fluid through the spine, around the skull and can return the body to a state of homeostasis. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very calming and relaxing healing experience.
Deep Tissue Massage, is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and scar tissue from injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication and breathing during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested before and afterwards to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released during the session.
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, by working with the fascia which is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct Myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Prolonged guided stretch and skin rolling are used to break up adhesions in the connective tissue.
Sports Massage is designed for pre/post event and highly active people who engage in athletics. Sports Massage enhances performance and can prolong a career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pain and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility. It can help dramatically improve recovery rates. Pre-event brings blood to muscle tissue for endurance and strength, post event lowers blood pressure and reduces muscle soreness and fatigue.
Our body remembers how we use it in our day to day life. Repeatedly using the muscles to do our actions can result in the muscles getting shorter, tight and rigid. Some examples I have seen are typing, which can lead to trigger finger, carpal tunnel, and tendonitis. And Prolonged running, standing or sitting can lead to plantar fasciitis, heal spurs and possibly problems in the way we walk, affecting the muscles up to the knees and hips. The muscles hold that memory and will stay taught over time pulling on the bones. What muscle release does, is changes the memory of the muscle by repetitively doing the opposite. STRETCHING IT! It feels so good! Stretching the effected muscles repeatedly, with oil, heating and releasing the fibers and restoring them to a more flexible state has been proven to bring results without surgery in some cases! The heat and the motion of the stretch brings circulation of blood to the areas quickly for ultimate healing results.
Heated stones are used at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly with massage. Cold stones are used to decrease inflammation and soreness from over use of muscles, headaches, or for recent minor injuries.
Exfoliating massage on a specific area helps to improve circulation to the surface of the skin, promoting healthy new growth and detoxification. During this treatment after the scrub is applied hot steam towels are used to remove the sugar/salt, and then a hydrating lotion is massaged to soften the skin. Typically people enjoy the back as it may be hard to reach yourself and the lower legs and feet.
Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother throughout the pregnancy. The benefits can include hormonal balance, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight, and improved breathing and relaxation.
Reflexology focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet, and sometimes the hands and ears. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for a wide variety of ailments.
